The Carlyle Inn is a boutique hotel in West Los Angeles designed by Richard Clemenson, reflecting his signature approach to modern architecture that balances clarity of form, livability, and strong spatial identity. The project is organized around a sculpted, curved courtyard that serves as the architectural and social core of the building, drawing light and activity into the center of the site.
The courtyard establishes a bold visual language through patterned paving, layered terraces, and graphic black-and-white umbrellas, creating a memorable shared space that contrasts with the calm, restrained exterior massing. Guest rooms and balconies wrap the courtyard, reinforcing visual connection and a sense of openness across multiple levels.
At street level, the hotel presents a refined contemporary presence that transitions seamlessly into thoughtfully composed interior spaces. The lobby and dining areas are defined by clean lines, curated artwork, and a warm material palette, supporting a relaxed yet intentional hospitality experience.
Through its clear organization and expressive central space, The Carlyle Inn exemplifies Richard Clemenson’s ability to merge architectural character with functional comfort, resulting in a distinctive urban hotel that feels both modern and inviting within the context of West Los Angeles.
